Lock work makes brass shavings, sawdust and small screws that roll under furniture. We put a drop sheet down, catch the mess, and vacuum before we go. Homeowners in La Salle should be able to tell we were there only by the way the door now locks, not by anything left behind.

Help with locks and keys

From the front door of a house to the back door of a warehouse, the work in La Salle comes down to a few families of jobs: getting in, changing who can get in, making it harder for the wrong people to get in, and keeping the hardware turning smoothly year after year. Browse the list to find yours.

Commercial Locks

Retail hardware takes abuse: doors propped open, slammed shut, hit with carts. Commercial-grade locks, reinforced strikes and robust closers are built for that, and replacing a builder-grade lock with one that fits the traffic is a common first job for a new shop.

Tell us what your La Salle door is doing

Smart locks, keypads and fobs are only worth fitting to doors in La Salle that are mechanically sound. So we check alignment and the bore first, install the hardware, then sit with you while codes are set and a phone is paired. Every electronic lock we fit keeps a mechanical key as a backup, and you leave knowing how to use both.

  • Careful with the buildingWe protect floors and finishes, work around your day where we can, and treat a shop or office with the same care as a home.
  • The choice explained in your termsRather than product names, we talk about what each option means for you: who has access, how it copes with weather, how easy it is to change later.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 47%Homes of every age

About 47% of homes in Burlington were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Mixed housing ages mean the advice changes door by door. An older solid-wood entry may want a strike reinforced; a newer steel door may want its short strike screws swapped. The locksmith looks at the door in front of him rather than assuming.

  • 50%

Single-detached houses make up about 50% of homes in Burlington (2021 Census).

In mixed neighbourhoods, a family may move from an apartment to a house or the other way around. A locksmith who knows both kinds of door can rekey the old place for the next occupant and set up the new one on the same visit.

Business Lockout Service

After last night's power flicker the card reader beside the clinic door shows nothing. Fobs do nothing, the electric strike stays locked, and the small brass override key that came with the system is in a desk drawer on the far side of the door.

Locksmith FAQ

(289) 816-4977

An employee left and never returned their keys. Should we rekey?

It is the sensible step, and a lockout visit is a convenient moment for it. Rekeying keeps your existing cylinders and changes the pins so a new key operates them and the unreturned one does nothing. If your doors use interchangeable cores, swapping the core takes minutes. Bring every door that shared the old key onto the new one, count the fresh keys into named hands and start a register so the next departure is a line in a book rather than a call.

Why did the frame break instead of the lock?

Because that is where the weak point was. A standard strike plate is held by two short screws in a soft wood jamb, and the deadbolt only reaches into a shallow pocket behind it. A kick delivers the full weight of a body to those screws, and the wood around them splits along the grain. The bolt itself is rarely the failure. That is why the repair concentrates on the strike side: a boxed strike, a full-depth pocket and long screws into the stud.

Can the work be done with the lock left in the door?

Rarely, and it is not the better route. Almost everything that fails is inside the case, and the case only opens once it is out of the pocket, which takes a few minutes and leaves no mark. Working through the keyhole with an unapproved or over-applied spray tends to wash out what little lubricant should stay and gums the levers later. Removing the case, cleaning it properly and refitting it is the repair that lasts.

Can several padlocks around a property be keyed alike?

Yes, provided the padlocks themselves are a type built to be rekeyed or matched, which is a feature of the specific model rather than something price or quality decides. The locksmith either rekeys the existing padlocks to a shared combination or replaces any that cannot be rekeyed with new ones cut to match. The result is one key working the front gate, the side gate and the shed, instead of a separate key for each, though a utility gate can be left on its own key.

Is a mailbox lock the same kind of lock as a house door?

The mechanism is related but smaller: many mailbox locks use flat wafer tumblers rather than the pin-tumbler cylinders found in most house doors, and some use a tubular, or barrel-key, design instead. The keyway, the tools that open it, and the way it is measured for replacement all differ from a deadbolt, even though both are picked or decoded using similar principles.
