Commercial doors in Aldershot take a beating: hundreds of openings a day, deliveries, weather, the odd kick. We fit lever sets, closers, push bars and deadlatches built for that traffic, adjust them so the door shuts and latches on its own, and come back to service them before they fail.

Help with locks and keys

Locks on homes and businesses in Aldershot go through the same stages: they get installed, they wear, they need rekeying when people change, and eventually they are upgraded or replaced. The services here follow that life cycle so you can find the right one at whatever stage your door has reached.

Commercial

Commercial Locks

Retail hardware takes abuse: doors propped open, slammed shut, hit with carts. Commercial-grade locks, reinforced strikes and robust closers are built for that, and replacing a builder-grade lock with one that fits the traffic is a common first job for a new shop.

Let us look at your locks in Aldershot

Lock work makes brass shavings, sawdust and small parts that roll under furniture. In Aldershot homes we lay a drop sheet, catch what falls, and vacuum before we go. The door gets wiped down, the old keys are handed back or taken away as you prefer, and the only sign we were there is a lock that turns without complaint.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 47%Homes of every age

About 47% of homes in Burlington were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Mixed housing stock keeps a locksmith versatile. A morning might be a heritage mortise lock rebuilt and an afternoon a smart lock paired to a phone on a steel door. The same care goes into both, with tools and parts for each.

  • 50%

Single-detached houses make up about 50% of homes in Burlington (2021 Census).

Where the housing is mixed, expectations about what can be changed differ. A homeowner in a house decides everything; a condo owner works within house rules on the outer face. The locksmith knows which conversation to have at which door.

The heavy glass door has been scraping the threshold for weeks. This morning the key turns, you can hear the bolt trying to move, but it is jammed hard in the strike and the door stays shut no matter how the handle is pulled.

An employee left and never returned their keys. Should we rekey?

It is the sensible step, and a lockout visit is a convenient moment for it. Rekeying keeps your existing cylinders and changes the pins so a new key operates them and the unreturned one does nothing. If your doors use interchangeable cores, swapping the core takes minutes. Bring every door that shared the old key onto the new one, count the fresh keys into named hands and start a register so the next departure is a line in a book rather than a call.

My lock is the homeowner-rekeyable type but the working key is lost. Can it still be reset?

Yes. Those cylinders let an owner change the key with a small learn tool, but only while a working key is in hand. Without one, a design such as Kwikset SmartKey is removed and placed in its own reset fixture, returning it to a blank state; other cylinder types are rekeyed by their own method instead. A new key is then set and the lock goes back on. It is a few extra minutes rather than a replacement.

How is rekeying different from replacing the lock?

Rekeying keeps your existing deadbolt or handle set and gives it a new key, commonly by changing the pins inside, though some cylinders reset a different way. Replacing removes the whole lock or cylinder and fits new hardware. Rekeying suits locks that are in good condition and simply need a fresh key. Replacement is the better call for hardware that is worn or damaged, built to a low grade, on a keyway the other doors cannot share, or due for a change of style or a keypad.

Will every old key stop working once you are done?

Every old key that operated a cylinder included in the plan will stop working, and the locksmith proves it by trying old keys at each door before leaving. Old keys keep working only at openings you chose to leave alone, which are written on the chart so there is no confusion. If a master key existed, it is tested too, since a forgotten master is the most common way an old key stays alive.

What is tested before the keys are handed over?

Every cylinder is tested on the bench against its assigned keys, then again once installed: the change key on its own door, the relevant sub-master across its whole group, and the top-level master across every door in the system. Any lock that responds to a key it should not is corrected before handover rather than left for the owner to discover later.
